"Painting Utah's Canyon Country in Watercolor" –
One of Roland's favorite subjects, this workshop will teach you to see the values, edges, and shapes that define the red rock country of Utah. We will paint both in the studio and outdoors (weather Permitting) and learn how light and shadow affect what we see. Come prepared to work outside. $175

Class is limited to 12 students. Typical classes consist of teacher demonstrations, power-point discussions, and actual painting time. This is a workshop for painters with previous watercolor experience. A knowledge of the basic watercolor techniques is presumed. Time is 9am to 4pm each day with a 1-hour lunch break (on your own.) Art class fee is $175 due at reservation. You will receive a full refund if cancellation notice is given 30 days prior to the class. No refunds given after that time.

ABOUT ROLAND LEE'S DRAWING AND PAINTING WORKSHOPS

With over 30 years experience, Roland Lee is one of today's most succesful watercolorists and sought-after art workshop instructors. As a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Roland has conducted workshops throughout America, helping hundreds of artists to bring their art to a higher level. He has also written articles for "The Artists' magazine and "The Drawing Board" magazine.

Workshops: Each year Roland conducts several 2-day workshops in St. George, Utah at A Passion for Painting Studio with up to 12 students accepted. He also teaches workshops for other art organizations in various locations with about 20 students accepted. If you are interested in hosting a workshop in your area contact Roland Lee via email.

Experience Levels: All Roland's workshops are intended for painters with some previous watercolor experience and a knowledge of basic watercolor painting techniques. You don't have to be a pro, but we do want you to feel comfortable. No specific paints or materials are required. Just bring what you like to use. A suggested materials list can be found below.

What to Expect: Typical classes consist of teacher demonstrations, powerpoint presentations, and actual student painting time under Roland's supervision. Classes will be mostly in the studio, with some short outdoor sketching trips to learn to see in nature. At least two plein-air outdoor painting workshops are offered each year in southern Utah's spectacular National Park country.

Meeting times: Classes generally meet from 9am to 4pm each day with a 1-hour lunch break (on your own).

Tuition and Cancellations:
The Class fee is due at reservation. You will receive a full refund if cancellation notice is given 30-days prior to class time. No refunds for cancellations will be given after that time. Be sure to contact individual workshop sponsors for specific registration information.

Roland Lee Plein Air Painting Workshop in
Zion National Park

In conjunction with the Zion National Park Centennial celebration, the St. George Art Museum hosted a major exhibition of works by living and deceased artists who painted Zion National Park. Roland's work was included in the exhibit. Emmy award winning film maker Phil Tuckett supervised a film crew from the Dixie State College Film department who documented the event and filmed Roland's painting workshop in Zion National Park. This segment was developed into a short mini-documentary which was shown during his 2010 solo show in the Human History Museum at Zion National Park.Film Editor: Sam Perez; Director of Photography:Ben Braton; Executive Producer: Phil Tuckett
