In
July 2009 I moved my painting studio into my home. I moved my art gallery
to "The Mission Gallery" which is handling sales of most of
my originals and Giclee prints.
I have had several studio locations in St. George
Utah over the past 25 years, but for the past five years I enjoyed a
lofty perch in a nice office building overlooking the city of St. George.
The views were spectacular. I shared the top floor with a couple of
cooperative attorneys who allowed me to display my paintings throughout
the office suites. Unfortunately, the spot didn't allow much privacy
and consequently I didn't get as much work done as I should have. So
now I've moved back to my home studio where I can work as late as I
want, and don't have to worry about keeping regular gallery hours. The
view isn't as nice, but it is a lot more comfortable. Unfortunately,
this makes it less conducive to having studio visitors, but collectors
can still stop by my gallery space at "The Mission Gallery"
in St. George's Ancestor Square where Jane Juber and Taylor Andelin
will show you my latest originals and giclee prints. And of course my
email and phone number is still the same.
At work in my Home Studio
Since I've had a studio in the home most of our married life, my wife
Nellie doesn't mind my working at home. Sometimes she works next to
me in the studio, and sometimes I move into the kitchen to work. "Su
casa es mi casa" takes on a whole new meaning here. But seriously
it is nice to have lunch together each day and relax on the back patio
when I need a breather. In the photo above I am working on one of a
series of historical painting commissions which will consume a good
chunk of my time during 2009.
Studio on the Hill

Here I am at work. I have a north facing studio space
looking towards the red sandstone cliffs of St. George. I also enjoy
a private view of a little-known waterfall that turns on whenever it
rains. (Photo by Lyman Hafen)

This is my view from my window in the front reception
area. Every day is spectacular, but in the late afternoon when the skies
are cloudy, the light on the distant Hurricane Cliffs and over towards
Zion National Park is unbelievable. See what I mean?
