Story:
We visited Valley Forge and other National Historic sites during summer of 2005. I wanted to paint George Washington's Headquarters (The Isaac Potts Home) at Valley Forge because of the unique stone work and the historical significance. But I thought the scene would look wonderful with a fresh blanket of snow, so that's the way I painted it.
It is said that Isaac Potts came upon George Washington in the woods on his knees praying. Knowing that he was a man of God, Isaac agreed to let Washington use the home as his headquarters during the War for Independence.
This painting was juried into the Top 100 Arts for the Parks 20th Annual National Arts Competition presented by the National Park Academy of the Arts.
