Story:
It is hard to believe that the deep canyon of Zion National Park was carved over time by this peaceful Virgin River. In the spring the river can be a raging torrent carrying millions of tons of rocks and boulders down from the mountains. But in the fall the Virgin's waters are gentle and calm as they meander quietly beneath the yellow cottonwoods, and under the ever-present gaze of "The Watchman" high above her.
This painting is on display at the Bingham Gallery located at the former studio of Maynard Dixon in Mt. Carmel Junction Utah. The show runs through April 30 in conjunction with the Utah Plein Air invitational "In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran." This event is held in conjunction with the Zion National Park Centennial.
