Story:
Many of my paintings depict the big picture in Zion National Park -- with clouds, cliffs, trees, water. But often I like to concentrate on a portrait of the rocks themselves. I enjoy exploring the jagged edges as weather takes its toll on the rocky surfaces, splitting stone into giant vertical monoliths streaked with the stains of exposure to wind and water. The real drama, though, occurs when nature's spotlight randomly lights up first one facet, then another to create a constantly changing dance of light and shadow. In this painting the trees and gnarly branches step aside and frame the sheer beauty of the stone.
