"Lake Powell Afternoon" is reproduced from an original watercolor painting by Roland Lee. Using today's latest Giclee printing technology, each print is individually created using archival inks on acid-free archival paper. Giclee prints have a projected life span of 80 to 200 years when kept from direct sunlight and should provide enjoyment for generations. Each image is individually printed on order, then hand-inspected, signed and numbered by the artist. Because of this care, we need about two weeks from the time you place your order until we can ship the artwork. For protection during shipping, all prints are sent rolled in a sturdy mailing tube.
Painting Background: Lake Powell is a favorite subject of mine. We spent many summers on a houseboat there over the years, and especially enjoyed exploring the shoreline. I never saw the land before the lake, so I have to imagine what it was like. But now, with the deep blue water lapping against the rugged sandstone cliffs, I have a hard time picturing it any other way. By studying with master painter David Drummond, who also houseboats on Lake Powell, I picked up his technique of handling the smooth glassy water unique to that lake. This painting typifies the scenes planted in my memory banks of many years spent staring with awe at that glossy water and those neon rocks.
