Art Lesson - Using Value Studies to Design a Painting Grasmere Lane, England
By using a small pencil drawing to plan my paintings, I can work out the details in advance.
In this painting of a little lane in Grasmere, Lake District, England I show how I can take a bad photograph, and develop it into a much more interesting painting. Since I was actually there, and saw the scene, I know it was better than what my photograph indicates. Therefore I draw more from my experience and memories to create the finished painting rather than relying on a "bad" photograph.
