"Schloss Ortenstein Switzerland" - Watercolor Painting of Schloss Ortenstein, Swiss Castle near Stuffels
Now when it comes to castles, I get excited. I have visited many of them throughout Europe. Thanks to my good friends Max and Silvia Von Planta I had a chance to see some really unusual schlosses and Burgs around their home in Stuffels Switzerland. With memories imbedded in my mind from sketching on location I created this painting back in my studio. Follow along by clicking on the images below as I demonstrate the techniques I use to plan and complete a watercolor painting from start to finish. See how I use my photo reference for structural accuracy, but lean on my artistic impressions to create a new scene based on my own feelings for the experience.
